Update!!!

Ok, Ron Artest is making me post again. It is official, that crazy guy is out of here and Peja Stojakovic (I learned how to spell) is coming here to Indy. Hopefully the Pacers can now get that behind them and really focus on playing good basketball.

Now on the grad school front. I have now received responses from 5 of the 6 schools. North Carolina sent a letter of rejection. Colorado, UAB, IUPUI and now Dartmouth have all requested interviews. I will be flying to UC Feb 23 and Dartmouth March 2. I am planning on UAB first week of April and IUPUI sometime in the next two months. Now I am just awaiting Vanderbilt's response. Since prior to visits, they were my number 2 choice (and close to number 1), I would greatly like to hear a positive response. Anyway, even with a now, I have 2/3 responding positively. If that rate continues, I will have several acceptances to choose from. Time will tell, and I will keep you, my gracious public, in the loop.

I'm out. Time for pizza and games. Bowling later tonight.

Spoke too soon...

Well, I posted earlier my joy in the Pacers trading Ron Artest. Then I learned that the deal is off. Apparently, Artest stated he did not want to go to Sacramento. Because of this, the Kings have backed out of the deal. In other words, Artest is an idiot and hurts the Pacers...again! The guy just does not think straight. It really is a shame. I don't think Artest is really in much of a position to demand anything, but he does. Hopefully the Pacers can get rid of him.

Basketball news

Here's the offical article from ESPN.com. It appears the Pacers are finally trading Ron Artest. I personally feel this should have been done prior to the start of this season...maybe even before last season. The guy is an amazing talent, but he is frickin' crazy. He has way too many screws loose in that melon of his. The Pacers will be getting Peja Sto...Stoya...Sto...well, it's something Eastern European and I know how to pronounce it, but can't spell it. Anyway, they get a guy that can shoot the ball very well. However, Peja has not been putting up the numbers he has in the past. Maybe the change of scenery will get him going. Regardless, the Pacers come out ahead on this deal. They get a team player with scoring ability and they get rid of a major distraction. Let's hope it turns out right.

In other basketball news, Kobe Bryant's performance on Sunday night was unbelieveable. 81 points. I don't care if you play a high school team, putting up 81 points is amazing. 26-48 shooting, 18-20 from the line. Great numbers. And his team did add another 45 on top of his 81. If Kobe would ever learn to make other players look good too, he would rival for best ever. Unfortunately, he has a "Get mine" attitude and will never break that upper echelon of great basketball players like Jordan, Bird and Magic. Still 81 points is amazing.

Getting Interviews...

I have now been contacted by 3 of the colleges that I applied to for a PhD in Pharmacology requesting an interview. I am anticipating hearing from the other schools in the next several days to week (either with rejections or interview requests). Things are already getting hectic and difficult in scheduling. Rotations are a primary reason for this difficulty and the second is two of the schools have the same weekend for interviews. UAB was the first to make contact, but they only accept interviews on weekdays. With my rotation schedule this is very difficult. I called and we have planned to meet up first of April (when I'm done with my rotations). Colorado was my second contact and they have a weekend in February set up...which I accepted. IUPUI e-mailed me today and invited me to their weekend, which turns out to be the same as Colorado. Well, I've accepted UC first, so I called IUPUI and asked if we could work something else out. It shouldn't be too complicated since I live in Indy. Alrighty, that's about all the news in my life. Exciting stuff...but still kinda stinks to tell schools to rearrange their schedules for me.

Oh well, still have to hear back from Vandy, UNC and Dartmouth. Hopefully they have different dates. Time will tell.

So much for my Super Bowl

Well, entering this post-season, I was pulling for a Indianapolis v. Chicago Super Bowl in Detroit (man...that's a lot of capitalized words in a row). Anyway, after this past weekend...or Sunday rather...it turns out that my wishes are out the window. Both teams lost in very uncharacteristic games. Indianapolis played poorly, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Chicago played poorly, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Sad, I know, but true. There is some football left to be played, so I'm going to make some new hopes/predictions. In other words, I am going to ruin some other teams chances by picking them. Without further ado... the NFC representative will be the Carolina Panthers. And the AFC representative will be the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Alrighty, the fate is sealed. The chances of these teams actually making the big show are now greatly lessened. I guess we will find out next Sunday.

In other football news, my Madden season has some sad news. No I didn't lose a Super Bowl, but I lost the entire franchise. I had some memory card issues over Christmas break and lost my franchise. So I went undefeated 2 seasons and was working the third and Bam it was no more. I guess I will have to start up another...but not until I work on finishing Resident Evil 4. I'm 10 hours into it (therefore I have roughly another 12-15 hours left...on the first play through).

I'm done now. Need some sleep...tomorrow is an early day.

What should I be....

I was prompted by my brother's post and took this quiz. It is designed to tell you what your major should be. With pharmacy not being an option, but I was as close as I could get. Pharmacology is very much a chemistry based science. At the very least, my top choices were all sciences. All that artsy boring stuff is at the bottom. Probably a good decision that I didn't choose one of those for my major. I think that I'm going to stick with pharmacy at this point...no reason to jump ship now. Anyway, here's the results of the internet quiz.

You scored as Chemistry. You should be a Chemistry major! As if that isnt clear enough, you are deeply passionate about Chemistry, and every single chemical reaction and concept fascinates you. Pursue that!

For the sake of posting

I didn't want another week to go by without letting my public go without hearing from me. Why is it that I think of tons of things to post about during the day, but then when I get around to posting, I can't think of what I thought about earlier? It's crazy. Kinda like thinking up a good punch line/come-back hours after the fact. Oh well, the mind is an interesting thing. Actually, it's probaly the final frontier in terms of exploration of the human body. Some may think its genetics, but I believe we are making pretty good progress on it...but it's still a whole can of worms. The mind however, still has tons of things left to figure out. From a medication perspective, we don't know how many of the head meds work. Oh well, I think I will go ponder this while laying quite horizontal with my eyes closed.

But first I must get clean. Goodnight.

Reflections on Packing / The New Year

I sit here next to my bookcase to begin the many hours it will take for me to pack up my belongings. This is not the first move I've experienced, in fact, for my recollection this will be my 4th move with the family. This one is quite a bit different though. I've not really ever gotten to call Washington "Home". It has been where my parents have lived and thereby my family...which makes it home, but I have no memories of Washington, which makes it less homely. Anyway, back to my reflection. It really is amazing how much stuff you have when it all has to be in boxes. Generally I would say I have a bit, but not a ton of stuff. Then into boxes it goes and it turns out I have a lot of stuff. Most of my items that are being boxed up will not see the light of day until July or August. Some will move to Terre Haute and stay boxed up in some storage room/closet. Some may move up to Indy where they will stay in some storage room/closet. Until I get my own place (be it house or apartment) in whatever city I go to grad school, these items of mine must get comfortable in their boxes. Which is ok, since they are here in Washington and I am rarely here and thereby not using them very often.

As you noticed this post had 2 titles, the first was the reflections on packing and that is now done. So we move to the second portion of this post. 2006! I foresee a huge year of change. Then again, I'm sure I've said that before, but this one really is shaping up to be a bit of a crazy year. I was talking over lunch with my Dad and sister about skipping all the hustle/bustle of the move. So it was said "Let's skip to April 1st", but then that puts dad in the middle of the Easter craziness. "Skip to May 1st", but that puts us at graduation time for both my sister and I. "Skip to June 1st", but that puts us at my sisters wedding. "July 1st", puts my sister and parents planning the trip to England. "August 1st", puts me finding a place to live and moving to my destination city (unknown at this time). "September 1st"....well, I'll be settled at school, parents will be settled at Terre Haute with not pressing church seasons, the sister will be married and employed (hopefully). Ok. It was settled, anyone with a FF button on life, pass it our way. Further areas of change consist of becoming licensed as a pharmacist and actually having responsibility at work. Also, grandparents health is always a concern.

There you have it. Busy packing away the things from my past and having a bit uncertain future laid out in front of me. Quite a bit to reflect on!
